Fern Jeffrey, 83, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died on Friday, July 7, 2006, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Fern Anna Kercheff Jeffrey was born July 3, 1923, at Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Steve and Dora (Redington) Kercheff. She graduated from the Mason City High School in 1941.

On May 3, 1942 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Jeffery at Princeton, Missouri. Fern was actively engaged with her husband in their farming operation until his death in 1967.

After Kenneth’s death, Fern attended Hamilton Business College for 2 years. She then worked as a secretary-bookkeeper, for Dorfman Auto Parts until her retirement.

Fern was a foster grandparent for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Women of the Moose. Her interests included reading, solving crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends.

Living family members include two sons, Dan (Karen) Jeffrey of Kansas City, Missouri and David (Sheryl) Jeffrey of Charles City; four grandchildren, James and Jennifer Jeffrey of Kansas City, Missouri, Melissa (Mike) McCoy of Charles City, and Michelle (Kevin) Delk of Denver, Colorado; and two great grandchildren, Casey and Cody McCoy; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother; and one sister.
