Charles City, IowaOna I. Maxwell, 79, of Charles City, died Thursday, February 28, 2008, at her home.
Pastor David Werges of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.
Ona Irene Hoblit Maxwell was born September 3, 1928, in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, the daughter of Harvey and Leola (Tatum) Hoblit. She graduated from the Little Cedar High School where she was active in girl’s basketball, cheerleading and the chorus.
On October 15, 1949, she was united in marriage to Duane R. Maxwell at Rochester, Minnesota. Ona was employed at Takin Brothers, Peterson’s and Goldblatts.
On October 15, 1983, Ona and Duane renewed their wedding vows at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Ona was very active in establishing the city of Crest Hill. She was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stone City Kennel Club, Crest Hill Little League Auxiliary and the Cub Scouts. Her interests included reading, fishing, camping, bird watching, and flower gardening.
Living family members include her three children, Doreen Rich of Charles City, Michael (Angela) Maxwell of Knoxville, Tennessee, and David (Patricia) Maxwell of Toms River, New Jersey; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Ida (Jack) Schloemer of Nashua and Frances Hundt of Charles City; a brother-in-law, Robert (Leona) Maxwell of St. Cloud, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane on March 4, 1997; and a sister, Irma Warrington.
