Bertha Laube, 88, of Charles City, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Bertha Katherina Magdalena Vetter Laube was born April 25, 1917, in Floyd County, the daughter of Fred and Clara (Kehret) Vetter. She received her education from rural Floyd County country schools.

On March 27, 1940, she was united in marriage to Herman Laube at Saint John’s United Church of Christ Pleasant Hill. They farmed for many years south of Charles City. In November of 1967 they moved into Charles City where they were custodians at the First Christian Church until December of 1989.

She was a life-long member of Saint John’s United Church of Christ-Pleasant Hill where she was also active in the Women’s Fellowship and choir. She was also a member of the Heritage Club, a neighborhood card club and had worked with the Hospice bereavement group.

Living family members include two sons, Herbert (Lydia) Laube of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Richard (Judy) Laube of Charles City; six grandsons, Timothy (Christy) Laube, Thomas (Jeannie) Laube, Trinity (Robin) Laube, Tyrone Laube, Jason Laube and Justin Laube; eight great grandchildren, Mason, Trenton, Tyler, Dylan, Caitlyn, Kylie, Alyssa and Daniel Laube. Bertha’s interests included fishing, flower and vegetable gardening, playing cards, baking and doing needlework.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother; Edwin Vetter; and a sister, Florence Niehaus.
