Charles City, IowaFloyd Wamsley, 95, of Elkhart, Indiana, and formerly of Charles City, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at the Elkhart General Hospital.
Floyd Henry Wamsley was born May 5, 1909, at Floyd, the son of Arthur and Katherine (Reiner) Wamsley. He graduated from the Floyd High School. Floyd worked for Hart Parr of Charles City and then for John Deere of Waterloo from 1934 to 1948.
On June 2, 1934, he was united in marriage to his life-long sweetheart, Mabel Arelene Boeckemeier. Mabel died on November 25, 2002. They lived in Waterloo, Rockford, Floyd and Charles City. While living in Charles City they operated the Wamsley Plumbing, Heating and Electrical Business until retirement in 1972.
Floyd was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd and was a former member of the Floyd Lion’s Club and Kiwanis in Charles City. He was a skilled craftsman, making beautiful walnut furniture, grandfather clocks and wall clocks. Floyd enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, golfing and lapidary which he taught during his winter stays in Arizona with Mabel, using his talent to make may pieces of jewelry.
Living family members include a son, Vernon (Norma) Wamsley of Elkhart, Indiana; a daughter, Margery (Les) Hansen of Libertyville, Illinois; three grandchildren, Debra, Vaughn and Steven Wamsley; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a grandson, Gregory Wamsley; and two brothers, Francis and James Wamsley.
The family suggests memorials be directed to the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd.
