Delbert Zimmer, 93, of Charles City, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Delbert Zimmer will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 9, 2004, at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Phil Corr, of the First Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Beckwith Cemetery, rural Colwell. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2004. Visitation will continue at the funeral home an hour prior to the service.

Delbert Jacob Zimmer was born January 31, 1911, in Floyd County, the son of Jacob F. and Jennie (Stabler) Zimmer. He attended school at Colwell. Delbert served in the United States Army during World War II. On February 14, 1942, he was united in marriage to Grace Monsen. Grace died on December 6, 2003. Delbert was a farmer at heart and along with farming worked various other jobs. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and playing cards at the YMCA and Senior Center.

Living family members include a son, D. Gene Zimmer of Charles City; a daughter Dorlean (Walter D.) Marshall, Sr. of Pittsburgh, PA, and their children, a son W. David Marshall, Jr. of Arizona and his two children, W. David Marshall III and Virginia Marshall, Annette Marshall of Maryland, Denise (Dan) Solomon and their sons, Daniel and Joel Solomon of Mercer, PA; Daniel Marshall of Butler, PA and Timothy Marshall of Pittsburgh, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 3 brothers, Vern, Dean and Donald; and three sisters, Zella Bonsall, Leona Crangle and Pauline Meyers.
