Emil John Zimmerman was born July 30, 1926, in Floyd County, Iowa, the son of Klaus and Mary (Rath) Zimmerman. He received his education from Floyd County schools.

On May 9, 1945, he was united in marriage to Eileen Paulus at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Emil farmed and was also employed at Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company from 1945 to 1977.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Elks.

Emil’s favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, coin collecting and growing the largest tomatoes in the neighborhood. He also had a passion for Oliver tractors and thoroughly enjoyed restoring them. The past few years they lived in Lansing where his social skills came into play when he would go to the “office” for his morning “sippy”. Emil always looked forward to the times he could spend with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Living family members include his wife, Eileen Zimmerman of Charles City; two daughters, Nancy (Glen “Pudge”) Springer of Lansing and Janet (Tom) Trainer of Charles City; six grandchildren, Robin (Kevin) McGlynn, Wendi (Randy) Huck, Darren (Mary) Shave, Cory (Nicole) Trainer, Tod (Sheila) Trainer and Holly Trainer; 13 great grandchildren; and three sisters, Emma Mohring and Esther Meyne both of Charles City and Mary Ann (Larrie) Steenhard of Waverly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Benny and Herman Zimmerman; and two sisters, Louise Anderson and Ella Hicok.
