The Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Rockford with Pastor Patricia Shaw.

Michael George Trettin was born July 11, 1952, the son of George and Arlene (Koehler) Trettin in Charles City. He graduated from Rockford High School in the class of 1970. After graduating from NIACC in 1972, Michael began his career in agriculture on his family’s farm.

On September 6, 1980, he was united in marriage to Karen Staudt at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville. Michael had a love of the land and soil. He was a conscientious steward of the land he farmed, with a deep respect for nature and all growing things. He was also a passionate gardener, able to make anything grow. His interests included bicycling, fishing, and camping. Michael’s greatest love was his wife and children. He is remembered as a quiet gentle person who was content to sit back, watch, and listen.

Living family members include his wife of 26 years, Karen Trettin of Rockford; two children, Cole Trettin of Rockford, and a daughter Kelly Trettin of Iowa City; his parents, George and Arlene Trettin of Rockford; two sisters, Connie (Roger) Baylor of Sherrill, and Carol (Mel) Boring of Eastsound, Wash.; a brother, Tim (Denyce) Trettin of Rockford; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
