Galen L. Tack, 88, of Floyd, went to his heavenly home, surrounded by his family on Friday, August 17, 2007, at the Good Shephard Health Center in Mason City.

Pastor LaVonne Kaasa and Chaplain Kent Mechler will officiate. Burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, rural Floyd.

Galen Louis Tack was born May 29, 1919, in rural Powersville, the son of Glenn and Mildred (Vestal) Tack. He attended school in rural Powersville.

On March 19, 1941 he was united in marriage to Fern Schrage at her parents’ farm in Greene. Galen and his wife farmed in the Greene area before moving to Floyd where they farmed for over 50 years.

He was a member of the Floyd Lions Club, the Heritage Club, different Card Clubs, Farm Bureau for over 60 years and the Senior Center in Charles City. Galen was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd where he served as Church Trustee and Head Usher for many years. His interests included farming, livestock, playing cards, helping others, his grandchildren, and visiting with family and friends. For 66 years Galen was a devoted husband and for the last several years a caregiver for his wife.

Living family members include his wife, Fern of Floyd; three daughters, Jan (Ron) Tjaden of Floyd, Donna (Allen) Ricks of Hudson, Gayle Hoy of Floyd; five grandchildren, Renee (Scott) Kramer, Sarah (Shane) Van Waardhuizen, Eric (Michelle) Hoy, Melinda Hoy and special friend Jamie Cook, Philip Hoy and his fiancée, Jessica Ayers; six great grandchildren, Jennifer, Cody, and Tjaden Kramer, Ella Van Waardhuizen, Jared Cook, and Olivia Hoy; one sister, Helen (Reverend Oliver) Brewer of Charles City; and one brother, Glenndale (Gladys) Tack of Salinas, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son-in-law, Randall Hoy on January 16, 2004.
