Virginia Reams, 86, of Charles City, died on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at her home.

Virginia Kathryn Meek was born February 25, 1919, in Charles City, the daughter of John and Mary (Marzen) Meek. She was raised in the area and graduated from the Greene Academy in 1937. She was united in marriage to James Reams on February 20, 1939, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greene. The couple has lived in the Marble Rock area and Charles City area farming north of Charles City until 1996 when they moved to town.

Virginia was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Senior Citizens, the 60+ group of Floyd, Double Dozen, Heritage Club, St. Francis Circle, and the South Cedar Terrace Card Club. She also served as a 4-H Leader for many years. She enjoyed watching wrestling and softball, gardening and roses, raising chickens and farming. She also loved playing cards and doing word find puzzles. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and loving friend to all who knew her.

Living relatives include her husband James, Charles City; sons, Marcus (Eleanor) Reams, Topeka, KS, Robert (Diane) Reams, Charles City, William (Barbara) Reams, Nashua, and Wally (Mary Lou) Reams, Steven Reams, Michael Reams, and Curt (Carol) Reams all of Charles City; daughters, Mary Jo (Duane) Tresch, Floyd, Cheryl (Ron) Sonberg, Charles City; 36 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; brothers Donald Meek Charles City, and Wayne Meek, Greene; sisters Bonnie Lynch, Greene, and Faith “Faye” Porter, Bellevue, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons, Russel Reams, and Richard “Dick” Reams; two brothers, Johnny and Richard Meek; and three sisters, Shirley Schlangen, Ruth Heitland, and Mary Jean Ramker.

Memorials may be directed to the Charles City Hospice.
