Donald Chesnut, 76, of Horatio, Arkansas, and formerly of Rudd, Floyd county, Iowa, died on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at his residence.

Donald Lee Chesnut was born September 25, 1931, in Floyd County, the son of Frank and Lula (Wagner) Chesnut. He received his education from Floyd and Rudd. Donald proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict during which time he received two purple hearts. In 1954 he was united in marriage to Peggy Bailey at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Peggy died on September 22, 1979. He farmed and worked at Armor in Mason City.

Donald married Zona Combs Vance on November 10, 1996. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Floyd, V.F.W. and the Farm Bureau. His interests included fishing and camping. Donald will always be remembered as a person who would help anyone.

Living family members include his wife Zona of Horatio, Ark., two sons, Russell Chesnut of Floyd and Steven E. (Lana) Chesnut of Boles, Ark.; three step sons, Larry and Vickey Vance both of Horatio, Ark. and Jerry Vance of Dierks, Ark.; three step daughters, Cathy Vance of Horatio, Ark., Marsha (Everett) Chadwick of Muse, Okla. and Donna (Eddie) Warren of Gillham, Ark.; two grandchildren, Carrie (Eric) Sims and Brandon Chesnut; a great granddaughter, Bailey Sims; and 14 step grandchildren; and a sister, Marlys (Stanley) Hodina of Floyd.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Peggy; an infant daughter; a brother, Roger Chesnut; and two sisters, Lucille Teeple and Shirley Ryner.

Donald Chesnut, age 76, of Horatio, Arkansas, and formerly of Rudd, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at his residence.

Funeral services for Donald Chesnut were held on Monday, July 28, 2008 at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City; Pastor LaVonne Kaasa, of the Floyd United Methodist Church officiated.

Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
