Charles City, IowaForest Chambers, 91, of Charles City, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.
Forest Weston Chambers was born March 12, 1914, in Floyd County, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Sadie (Weston) Chambers. He graduated from Greene Community School in 1933.
On October 31, 1935, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Wilson at Charles City. Forest farmed north of Charles City for many years and later worked at the Oliver/White Farm Equipment Company for several years. He was a member of the Colwell United Church of Christ and the Floyd Lions Club. His interests included quilting, writing poetry, and doing carpentry which was everything from building clocks to houses. Forest will also be remembered for playing Santa Claus for over 60 years as well as playing the fiddle at nursing homes for many years.
Living family members include his wife, Dorothy of Charles City; a daughter, Mary Jean Zilm of Ft. Dodge; two grandchildren, Jana Zilm of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Doug Zilm of Ocean Beach, Calif.; two brothers, Raymond (Marie) Chambers of Charles City and Freeman (Della) Chambers of Ft. Collins, Colo.; and two sisters, Betty (Buster) Starr and Virginia (Hurvey) Tudor both of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great granddaughter, Bailey Zilm; and two brothers, James and Ned Chambers.
