CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Gloria Crumpton, 68, of Manchester, formerly of Charles City, died Tuesday (Sept. 27, 2005) at Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Gloria Crumpton will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City with Pastor Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.
Gloria Ann Holm Crumpton was born July 18, 1937, at St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Victor and Lorraine (Zimmerman) Holm. She graduated from St. Ansgar High School.
On November 7, 1952, she was united in marriage to Jim Crumpton at Toeterville. Gloria worked with her husband at Salsbury Farm, then at Home Health for several years and then as secretary at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church for 15 years. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught confirmation and Sunday school and belonged to Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and Altar Guild. Gloria also worked with Meals on Wheels, was an avid reader and also liked to sew and cook.
She will always be remembered for being a compassionate and concerned friend. Family was always a very important part of her life and she looked forward to being with them and spoiling the grandchildren. Gloria always enjoyed preparing those “specialty” dishes for each one of her family.
Living family members include four children and their families: Jon (Alicia) Crumpton of Tempe, Ariz., Val (Keith) Onken and Jamie of Charles City, Tracy (T.J.) Crumpton and Samantha and James of Cedar Rapids, and Mick (Brenda) Crumpton and Hannah and Noah of Manchester; eight brothers and sisters: Jackie (Al) Jacobs of Ellendale, Minn., Judy (Roger) Grimm of Elma, Dale (Vickie) Holm of Osage, Allen (Karen) Holm of Swaledale, Richard Holm of Charles City, Robert (Barb) Holm of Orchard, Don (Shirley) Holm of Charles City, and Diane (Tim) Francis of Mason City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Oct. 16, 1987; and a son, Brian Crumpton.
