Helen Hazel Baehne Kneisel Butler was born July 11, 1916, at Rockford, Floyd county, Iowa the daughter of Carl and Hazel (Metz) Baehne. She graduated from the Rudd High School.

On July 7, 1939 she was united in marriage to Milton Kneisel. Milton died on November 9, 1970.

Helen married Leonard Butler on July 6, 1974. Leonard died on August 27, 1997. During her working career Helen was employed with Buckner's Restaurant and from 1961 to 1973 with the Charles City Public School in food service.

She taught Sunday school, participated in many church functions and was a member of the East Saint Charles Club, Women of the Moose, Senior Citizens Center and the Red Hat Society. Her other interests included gardening, camping and working with crafts.

Living family members include a son, Ronald (Virginia) Kneisel of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Nancy (Glenn) Johlas of Charles City; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a step son, Don (Beverly) Butler of Creston; a step daughter-in-law, Ruby Butler of Des Moines; 2 step grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; two step great great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Neva Baehne and Almeda Obermeier both of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; two sons, Roger and Russell Kneisel; a brother, Harold Baehne; a sister, Alice Clapp; and a step son, Neil Butler.
