CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Walter Gronwoldt, 87, of Charles City, died Thursday (Dec. 1, 2005) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main in Charles City, with the Rev. Vincent Fricke, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Alta Vista, officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Hauser Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Charles City, IowaWalter Henry Gronwoldt was born September 3, 1918, on the family farm near Alta Vista, Iowa, the son of Henry J. and Dora (Shade) Gronwoldt. He was raised on the farm and attended country school. He was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church, Alta Vista.
Following his schooling he continued to farm with his father and also worked for area farmers in the Elma and Riceville areas. He later continued to farm for himself and with his brother, Vern. After his retirement he moved to Charles City. Walter was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Alta Vista. He enjoyed reading and playing cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include three sisters, Norma Bill of Alta Vista, Edna Sir and Alice Ross of Elma; one brother, Vern (Betty) Gronwoldt of Riceville; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Rose, Dorothea, and Esther, and two brothers, Marvin and Leonard.
