Susie Johnson, 93, of Charles City, died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

Susie Ellie Beavers Johnson was born December 2, 1912, at Northport, Ala., the daughter of Gilbert and Ella (Stanley) Beavers. She attended school at Northport. On February 3, 1934, she was united in marriage to Arnold Johnson at Lane, S.D. They moved to Charles City in 1961. Susie was employed at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital for 20 years.

Susie was a charter member of the Messiah Lutheran Church and was an instrumental part in all the activities of the church including the Ruth Circle. Susie will always be remembered as one who gave completely of her time, talents and energy to the church. She was also a Floyd County Volunteer. Her interests included quilting, growing African Violets, baking pies and flower gardening.

Living family members include a daughter, Nadine (Jim) Balkenende of Floyd; two grandsons, Richard (Brooke) Balkenende and Brian Balkenende and special friend Erin Fitzharris; a great granddaughter, Meadow Balkenende; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1968; a grandson, Michael Balkenende; two brothers, Joe and Charlie Beavers; and two sisters, Sarah and Catherine.
