Wonda Elnora Sigler was born April 21, 1918, on the family farm, rural Floyd, to Alonzo and Myrtle (Brittin) Sigler. She was the youngest of ten children and was raised on the family farm attending Floyd county schools.

On March 11, 1939, she was united in marriage to Gilbert “Gib” Johnson in Manly. During Wonda’s married life she and Gib were farmers. She helped him work in the fields and operated the tractors and equipment. Gib always told people that Wonda was his “hired man.” They had no children and were almost always seen together. They took several trips to South Dakota to visit Gib’s family, attended the local sporting events, fairs and carnivals.

They always kept their farming equipment, home, and surroundings in perfect order and condition. Upon their retirement they moved to Charles City. Gib was killed in a traffic accident in March 1988. Wonda was with him at the time but was not seriously injured. She loved working in her yard and being outside when the weather permitted. She continued to live in her home until November 2001, when a stroke forced her to change her lifestyle.

Wonda loved her family and friends who came to visit her on a regular basis. Her good friend, Eileen Burkhardt spent a great deal of time with her. Living family members include one brother, Lavern (Joyce) Sigler, Charles City; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Bertha Kjar, Akron, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gib; and brothers, Oliver, Clifford, and Martin Sigler; and sisters, Esta Holtz, Edna Sigler, Charlotta Toebe, Opal Canfield, and Londa Bonewitz.
