CHARLES CITY — Arlene Haller, 84, of Charles City, died Saturday (March 5, 2005) at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. The Rev. Dennis Niezwaag, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City and will resume an hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
The Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City is in charge of arrangements.

Arlene Blanche Mitchell Haller was born December 31, 1920 in Cylinder, Iowa, the daughter of Morris and Elsie (Meling) Mitchell. She graduated from Fenten High School in 1938 and from Estherville Junior College and Hamilton Business College in Mason City.
On January 9, 1944, Arlene was united in marriage to Arnold E. Haller at the Saint John Lutheran Church in Depew. They resided in Charles City until 1953. After purchasing the Marble Rock lumber yard they resided in Marble Rock for 40 years. In 1993, they returned to Charles City. Arlene was active in the Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Marble Rock where she taught and led Bethel Bible studies.
She was a current member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and was active in numerous activities. Arlene enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, swimming and cross country skiing. In 1989 she was named Volunteer of the Year by the North Central Iowa Chapter of the American Red Cross, being instrumental in getting CPR classes taught in Marble Rock and coordinating the Bloodmobile for several years.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Arnold; a daughter Marcia (Mark) Kogle of Puyallup, WA; two sons, Dennis (Janet) Haller of Decorah and Jerry Haller of Loveland, CO; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Marie (Rev. Edwin) Silrum of Eagan, MN, and Elaine Davidson of Charles City; and a brother Rev. Dale (Mary) Mitchell of Norton Shores, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
