Kenneth Deist, 84, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Saturday, August 11, 2007, at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Kenneth William Deist was born July 23, 1923, at Charles City, the son of William and Alma (McManigle). He graduated from Charles City High School. Kenneth served in the United States Army during World War II.

On April 18, 1944, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Morrison at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Eleanor died on April 15, 1982. Kenneth had worked at Kaiser Shipyards in California, the Oliver Corporation and with the United States Post Office for over 43 years.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, was past commander of the American Legion and was past president of the Charles City Senior Citizens. Kenneths interests included hunting and woodworking.

Living family members include a son, Richard (Kay) Deist of Charles City; a son-in-law, Barrie Swinbank of Cedar Rapids; and two grandchildren, Brian Swinbank and Amy Beem.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Kathy Swinbank; a step granddaughter, Makinzey Nierling; and four sisters, Mary Skyrme, Betty Van Patten, Wilma Deist and Dorothy Deist.

Memorials may be directed to the Make a Wish Foundation in care of Dick Deist, 117 Hawkins, Charles City, Iowa.

CHARLES CITY — Kenneth Deist, 84, of Charles City, died Saturday (Aug. 11, 2007) at Cedar Health in Charles City.

Funeral services for Kenneth Deist will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Gary Van Wert will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.
