John Chambers, 90, of Marble Rock, died Thursday, March 9, 2006, at the Nora Springs Care Center in Nora Springs surrounded by his loved ones.

John Earl Chambers was born October 11, 1915, in Floyd County, the son of C. "Glenn" and Nellie (Hildebrand) Chambers. He received his education at the Cedar Township country school. On March 30, 1941, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Sheets at the Little Brown Church. John farmed all of his life in Floyd County. Farming and raising feeder cattle was his passion.

He was a member of the Marble Rock United Methodist Church. John always took a special interest in his family, community affairs and neighborhood activities. He will be remembered as one who always supported his community and neighbors whenever the need arose.

Living family members include three children, John Leslie (Paula) Chambers of Waterloo, Beverly (Terry) Mathers of Rudd, and Lyle (Ann) Chambers of Marble Rock; twelve grandchildren, Tammra Chambers, Tresa (John) Habinck, Melissa (Cory) Haberstich, Jolene (Tim) Rogers, Julie (Joe) Eggena, John (Kim) Field, Jerome Field, Laura (Jason) Boyd, and Katie (Zach) Kaduce, John Allen, Caleb and Chelsea Chambers; 17 great grandchildren, Grace Chambers, Jordan and Haley Habinck, Addyson and Macy Haberstich, Erin, Matthew and Allison Rogers, John J., Emily and Sarah Eggena, Brandon, Hannah and Courtney Field, David, Lydia and Rebecca Boyd; two great great granddaughters, Madison Field and Naomi Jones; three brothers, Wesley Chambers of Charles City and James Lewis (Margaret) and Clayton (Rosemary) Chambers both of Marble Rock; three sisters, Edith Bill of Greene, Dorothy Bill of Riceville and Marion Meek of Lakeville, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.*

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife on November 15, 2004; a son, Allen Chambers in 1965; a great grandson, Dean Boyd in 1996; a brother, Roy Chambers; and a sister, Edna Ferch.
