Rebecca Chambers, age 93, of Marble Rock, Floyd County, Iowa, died Monday, November 15, 2004, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Rebecca Chambers will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Marble Rock United Methodist Church. The Reverend Kenneth Kent, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Visitation will continue at the church an hour prior to the service.

Rebecca Jane Sheets Chambers was born December 8, 1910, in South Dakota, the daughter of Zina and Hattie (Huffman) Sheets. She graduated in 1929 from the Nashua High School and attended Cedar Falls Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. Becky taught in country schools near Nashua and Colwell from 1929 to 1941. At that time you could not be married and still teach school.

On March 30, 1941, she was united in marriage to John Chambers at the Little Brown Church. Becky left her teaching career and joined John in the farming operation. Her love of teaching would continue as she taught Sunday School, grades four through nine, until she was in her 80s. Becky was also a newspaper correspondent since 1982, writing for the Charles City Press, Greene Recorder and the Shell Rock Valley Times.

She was a member of the Marble Rock United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women. Becky always looked forward to attending the Ulster Club and Hi-Neighbor Club of which she was a charter member. Beckys hobbies included scrapbooking, crocheting, doing crafts and puzzles, reading and playing games. Her family meant everything to Becky and she always looked forward to the time she could spend with them.

Living family members include her husband John Chambers of Marble Rock; three children, John Leslie (Paula) Chambers of Waterloo, Beverly (Terry) Mathers of Rudd, and Lyle (Ann) Chambers of Marble Rock; 12 grandchildren, Tammra Chambers, Tresa (John) Habinck, Melissa (Cory) Haberstich, Jolene (Tim) Rogers, Julie (Joe) Eggena, John (Kim) Field, Jerome Field, Laura (Jason) Boyd, and Katie, John Allen, Caleb and Chelsea Chambers; 16 great grandchildren, Jordan and Haley Habinck, Grace Chambers, Addyson Haberstich, Erin, Matthew and Allison Rogers, John J., Emily and Sarah Eggena, Brandon, Hannah and Courtney Field, David, Lydia and Rebecca Boyd; a great great granddaughter, Madison Field; and a sister, Ruby Burgess of Maddock, North Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Allen Chambers in 1965; a great grandson, Dean Boyd in 1996; a sister, Bertha Silberg; and three brothers, George, Zine and Orville Sheets; and a special niece, Lila Nelson.
