Charles City, IA 50616Leona Mae Smith Blunt was born June 20, 1919, at Bassett, the daughter of John and Winnefred (Bell) Smith. She graduated from the Ionia High School.
On October 16, 1939, she was united in marriage to Clyde Blunt at Waterloo. Leona and Clyde farmed in Chickasaw County for many years moving to New Hampton in 1959. In the mid 1970’s they moved to Charles City. While living in New Hampton she was a member of the Congregational Church and when she moved to Charles City was a member of the Church of Oak Park.
She will always be remembered for her love of people and the friendly smile with which she greeted everyone. Her interests included crocheting, knitting, dancing and playing piano and drums.
Living family members include a son, Garon (Barbara) Blunt of Decorah; a daughter, Marlys (Ronald) Buhr of Charles City; five grandchildren, Russell Buhr, Raymond (Angie) Buhr, Rhonda (Darren) Dvorak, Christina (Greg) Elton, and Breanna Blunt; six great grandchildren, Morgan and Brock Dvorak, Katie and Emily Buhr and Chance and Braden Elton; a sister-in-law, Nina Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1985; and a brother, Arnold Smith.
