Charles City, IA 50616LeRoy M. Bigelow, 77, of Charles City, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.
LeRoy M. Bigelow was born June 7, 1930, at Bassett, the son of Orlo and Marie (Springer) Bigelow. He graduated from the Charles City High School in 1949. LeRoy proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
On September 14, 1953, he was united in marriage to Mary Anne Foley at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada. In 1955 they moved to Charles City. Over the years LeRoy was employed at the Oliver, Adrian Implement, Allied Equipment and the Iowa Department of Transportation retiring in September of 1992.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and had served as treasurer of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. His interests included reading, working of family genealogy, collecting postcards, attending auctions and spending time on the computer. LeRoy took special interest in his grandchildren and he looked forward to spending time with them.
Living family members include his wife, Mary Bigelow of Charles City; four children, Denice (Loren) Goodrich of Boulder, Colo., Nancy (Bruce) Biekert of Nashua, Jolene (Mike) Gesing of Postville and Bill (JoEllen) Bigelow of Urbandale; five grandchildren, Joshua Biekert, Kim and Brian Goodrich, Jessica and Carly Jo Bigelow; a step-granddaughter, Melissa Gesing; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Raymond Bigelow; and a sister, LeOra McFate.
