Gordon “Gordie” Schmidt, 81, of Charles City, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Gordon Edward Schmidt was born April 7, 1923, at St. Paul, MN, the son of Julius and Agusta (Keacher) Schmidt. He attended school in St. Paul.

Gordon was married for a short time to Gayle Stevens and they divorced. Gordon then married Helen Neumann in 1955 and relocated to California. They moved to Reno, NV in 1960 and lived there working in the printing industry and as a cook in various casinos. In 1966 they returned to Richmond, CA, where he was employed by SKS Die Casting and Machine Manufacturing Corporation, Alameda, CA. He remained in Richmond until Helen’s passing in 1984.

After retiring he returned to Reno where he enjoyed hiking in the mountains, mining and exploring unsettled areas around the area. He relocated in Petaluma, CA in 1999. In September of 2003 he came to Charles City residing in the Starr Home and later at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home until his death.

Living family members include a daughter, Sharon (Bill) Bledsoe of Charles City, two stepdaughters, Josephine (Robert) Juarros of Sacramento, CA, and Cheryl (James) Burling of Bribane, Australia; three stepsons, Dennis Neumann of Reno, CA, Charles Neumann and Ronald Neumann; eight grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
