Opal I. Schlotterbeck, 92, of Charles City, died Saturday, June 14, 2008, at the Floyd County Medical Center, in Charles City.

Pastor Phil Corr will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Opal Irene Jorgensen Schlotterbeck was born February 13, 1916, at Guthrie Center, the daughter of Walter and Edith (Brady) Jorgensen. She graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1934. After high school Opal taught rural school for four years in Guthrie Center and at Grinnell College during the early years of World War II.

On August 10, 1938, she was united in marriage to Francis L. Schlotterbeck at Guthrie Center. Opal owned and operated Howlyn’s Office Supply for 40 years.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Eastern Star and the Heritage Club. Her interests included playing bridge, golfing, traveling and spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends.

Living family members include three children, Dennis (Linda) Schlotterbeck of Omaha, Nebr., Larry (Jodell) Schlotterbeck of Dayton, Ohio and Vicki (Jim) Bissonnette of Charles City; nine grandchildren, Susan Schlotterbeck, Troy (Stacy) Schlotterbeck, Traci (Jason) Radcliffe, Tammy (Mark) O’Hollearn, Raquel (Craig) Jarrard, Denise (Rick) Wilson, Debbie (Terry) Woodson, and Tim Schlotterbeck; 19 great grandchildren, Gavin and Gage Schlotterbeck, Alaina and Jacob Radcliffe, Brooke, Dylan and Ben O’Hollearn and Cole and Carson Jarrard; four great-great grandchildren; sister, Norma Stock of Charles City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Marvin Jorgensen.
