Charles City, IA 50616Erwin “Erv” Becker, 86, of Charles City, died Saturday, June 17, 2006, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Erwin Edward Becker was born August 9, 1919, at Toledo, Ohio, the son of Daniel W. and Marie (Keller) Becker. His Christian baptism was performed at First Saint John Lutheran Church of East Toledo, Ohio. He attended the Oregon Township schools and graduated from high school in 1938 and from Tri-State Business College in 1940. Erv then went to work in the office and sales for the Nordmann Roofing Company.
On August 6, 1946, he was united in marriage to Irmgard Knock at Clarksville. In October of 1948 he joined his father-in-law Henry Knock in business, starting Knock & Becker, a home improvement business in Charles City. Henry Knock moved to Florida in 1958 at which time Erwin and his wife continued the business as Becker Home Improvement.
Erv was a member of the Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lions Club and Noon Kiwanis. His hobbies included gardening and playing golf.
Surviving family members include his loving wife, Irmgard of Charles City; three loving children, Rev. Mark (Judy) Becker of Woodbury, Minn., Karen (Max) Brandau of Nora Springs, and Kathy (Monte) Waldorf of Charles City; eight grandchildren, Renae (Greg) Adams, Susanne Waldorf, Correne (Todd) Larsen, Dr. Justin Brandau, Dawn Brandau, Rev. Amy Becker, Katy Becker and Daniel Becker; three great grandchildren, Ryan, Spencer and Darren Adams; a sister, Margaret (Glenn) Koester of Toledo, Ohio; a brother, Rev. Theodore D. Becker; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Otto Becker and his wife, Marguerite Becker; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Becker.
