Alice Lodema Koehler Gauger was born November 24, 1909, in Floyd County, the daughter of Charles and Julia (Johnson) Koehler. She graduated from the Charles City High School.

On September 27, 1933, she was united in marriage to Wayne Gauger at the West Saint Charles United Methodist Church. They lived in the Charles City area all of their lives. Wayne died on November 7, 1999.

Alice had worked for a number of years as a telephone operator, also at the office of Dr. Knight at Rockford and Beas Clothing Store in Charles City. She was a member of the West Saint Charles United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Senior Citizens and served as a Pink Lady at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital. Alice enjoyed gardening, baking bread, watching and feeding the birds and writing poetry.

Living family members include a son, Lawson (Anita) Gauger of Moline, IL; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Patsy Gauger of Holt, MO.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa Charles City site or the West Saint Charles United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, David Gauger and a brother, Russell Koehler.
