Joann E. Thome, age 76, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at the Colonial Manor in Elma, Howard county, Iowa.

The Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at 10:30 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane, Charles City, Iowa. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Joann Elizabeth (nee Julius) Thome was born July 29, 1932, at Parkers Prairie, Minnesota, the daughter of Wright and Dora (Gross) Julius. She graduated from Little Cedar schools.

On February 5, 1951, she was united in marriage to Clarence Thome at Austin, Minnesota. She was employed at Trowbridge, Red Owl Pharmacy for 10 years and the Spencer Pharmacy for 10 years.

Joann was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Francis Circle and Immaculate Conception funeral choir. She volunteered at many church functions and was a Foster Grandparent for many years. Her interests included crafts, word scrambles, singing and listening to Country and Gospel music.

Living family members include her six children: Michael (Becky) Thome of Charles City, Diane Moore of Spencer, David (Kathy) Thome of Lakewood, Colorado, Barbara (Dan) Erickson of Nora Springs, Cheryl (Eddie) Begley of Charles City and Gary Thome of Englewood, Florida; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Janice Canny of Lake Mills; and two brothers, Lee (Delia) Julius of Mason City, Iowa, and Larry (Ruth) Julius of Riceville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Alta Counsell and Verla Kindschuh.
