Barbara Anderson, age 83, of Charles City, died on Friday, August 22, 2008, at Cedar Health in Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa.
Funeral services for Barbara Anderson will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Dr. Todd Anderson and Pastor Gary Van Wert will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.
Barbara Louise Gravatt Anderson was born June 14, 1925, in Traer, Iowa, the daughter of Howard I. and Wanda (Arney) Gravatt. She received her education from Iowa State Teachers College from 1943 until 1947. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in voice and piano.
Barbara was a member of Kappa Phi, a soloist for the College Choir and Chapel Choir and also a recording soloist for the station WGN in Chicago.
On November 2, 1946, she was united in marriage to Amos Theodore “Ted” Anderson in Des Moines. Barbara supported Ted during the 40 years of his service as the Elementary Principal at the Washington Grade School in Charles City. Barbara was employed by First Citizen’s National Bank for 24 years where she became a Vice President and was an active member of the Iowa State Chapter of the National Association of Bank Women. Barbara was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City, past Circle President, member of the choir and soloist.
Barbara was also a member and president of the Chapter CY P.E.O. Her favorite pastimes were quilting, knitting, playing piano, reading and spending time with her friends. In her retirement she found great joy in serving as a volunteer for the Hospice of North Iowa.
Survivers include: four children: Doug (Cathy) Anderson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dave (Karen) Anderson of Taichung, Taiwan, Dr. Marcia Anderson and life companion Dr. Victoria Bacon of Norton, Mass. and Brad (Lori) Anderson of Monmouth, Oregon; eight grandchildren: 10 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul Gravatt of Sun City, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; and by a granddaughter, Layla Anderson.
