NASHUA, IOWA — Fred R. Hansen, age 82, of Nashua, Chickasaw county, Iowa, died on Sunday evening, August 10, 2008, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Nashua. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Nashua.

Fred Richard Hansen was born June 4, 1926, at Shell Rock, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Emma (Modderman) Hansen. He attended school in Tripoli and Nashua.

He was united in marriage to Maxine Wolff at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on Nov. 16, 1945. To this union two children were born. They lived and farmed in the Nashua area. In 1953, they moved to their farm east of Nashua, where Fred continued to farm until 2001.

Fred was a member of Republic Community Church where he served as Deacon and Greeter for many years. He served as a director of the Federal Land Bank Board, Thompson Country School and as a school board director. He was a faithful supporter of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved his family and was a great dad, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Fred is survived by his wife, Maxine; a son, Richard (Carolyn) Hansen; a daughter, Linda (Gerald) Smith all of Nashua; six grandchildren, Tammy (Steve) Sudol, Kim (Mark) Walk, Shawna (David) De Peuw, Jason (Marisa) Hansen, Kendra (Kevin) McCall and Shannon Tripp; 4 step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; 12 step great-grandchildren; 4 step great-great grandchildren; a sister, Shirley (Cordell) Martin of Nashua. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Alan Tripp; and his parents; two brothers, Roger and Charles Hansen and a sister, Gladys Creager.
