Anna Schmitt 1907-1996

Anna A (Mrs. Lorence) Schmitt, 89, a former resident of rural Charles City, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 14, 1996 at the New Hampton Care Center where she had been a resident for the past five years.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Sunday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. The Rev. Msgr. Stanley Hayek, pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from noon to 9 pm Friday where the Rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm and the Parish Vigil Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 pm on Friday at Hausers. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday morning an hour prior to the Mass.

Anna A Krempges was born on June 12, 1907, at Gilbertville, the daughter of Matt and Anna Holbach Krempges. She received her education in the Gilbertville schools.

On Sept. 8, 1933, she and Lorence Schmitt were married in the St. Anastasia Catholic Church at Jesup. They moved to the Charles City area in 1947 where she was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. She enjoyed crocheting mittens for the grandchildren and making afghans. Gardening and helping others when in need were everyday tasks.

Living family members include four daughters and their husband Janice and Roger Stanton of Greene, Joanne and Clinton Brannon of New Hampton, Donna and Donald Schwickerath of New Hampton and Mary Ann and DeBlonde Johnson of Owatonna, Minn.; a son and his wife ,Lawrence and Nancy Schmitt of Charles City; a son and his wife Lawrence and Nancy Schmitt of Charles City, a daughter-in-law Lois Schmitt of Ames; a brother, Francis Krempges of Independence and two sisters Mary Sadler of Oelwein and Josephine Weber of Dunkerton . There are 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents her husband in 1965, a son Ronald in 1989; a brother and a sister.
