Ellen McCreedy Is Dead at 98; Civil War Vet's Widow - Ellen Whitman McCreedy, 98 years old, died at the home of her son, G. E. McCreedy, 113 First avenue SW, at 6 a.m. Thursday after a lingering illness.

Born March 3, 1845, in Wyoming, Ill., she was married to Orin P. McCreedy Oct. 1, 1864, at Camp Grove, Ill.

Her husband served three years in the Civil war and was discarged after being wounded. They resided at Rockford, Ia., until the death of Mr. McCreedy about 20 years ago, when she came to Cedar Rapids to make her home with her son. She was a member of the Methodist church and Home Rebekah lodge.

Surviving are two sons, T. H. and G. E. McCreedy, both of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Mrs. William Metz of Rockford; 28 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In additon to her husband, three sons and two daughters preceded her in death.

Funeral announcement will be made later. Friends may call at the Moen chapel.
