Mrs. M’Murchy Passes Away –
Mrs. Jane McMurchy aged 82, passed away on Saturday evening at her home three miles north and one mile east of Floyd after an illness of a few days. She has been in failing health for over a year. Death was attributed to infirmities of old age.
Mrs. McMurchy is well-known in the Floyd vicinity having come directly from Scotland to Floyd fifty-six years ago. Mr. McMurchy passed away in 1903.
Jane Sillers was born to Daniels and Mary Steward Sillers on Feb. 10, 1960 on the Island of Arran in Buteshire, Scotland. On June 21, 1886, she was untied in marriage to John McMurchy at Campbeltown, Scotland. The young couple left soon after their marriage for the United States and established their home near Floyd. To this union were born three daughters and three sons. They are Mrs. Mary Harris, Mrs. Katherine Wilson and Mrs. Clara Towner, Dan McMurchy and Ronald McMurchy, all living near Floyd.
One son preceded his mother in death, having passed away at the age of eight years in 1897. A sister, Mrs. Martha Kelly of Hackensack, N. J., and one brother, Allen Siller, also survive. There are five grandchildren living.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday afternoon at the Howardville Wesleyan Methodist church at 2:30 o’clock with preliminary services at the late home. The Rev. Clarence Budensiek will deliver the funeral sermon and will be assisted by the Rev. Robert Howlett of the Howardville church. The body will remain at the Houser Funeral Home until 9:00 o’clock Tuesday morning. Interment will be made in the Howardville cemetery.
