Funeral Saturday for
Head of Charles City
Rail Firm

Charles City, Iowa – Funeral services for John F. Christiansen, 54, year-old president and manager of the Charles City Western Railway Co., who died at St. Mary’s hospital in Rochester, Minn., Wednesday, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in First Congregational church here.

Rev. Harold W. Putney, pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in Riverside cemetery here.
Mr. Christiansen, who was active in the business and civic life of the community, had been in Rochester for medical treatment several months.

He was president of the Sherman Nursery and a director in the First Security Bank and Trust Co.
Born in Toluca, Illinois, June 11, 1892, he served as a teacher in the College of Commerce, Waterloo, 1912-14; as a teacher in Cedar Valley Seminary, Osage, 1914-15; coming to Charles City in 1931.

His career with the Charles City Western started in 1918, when he joined the railroad as auditor, becoming vice president and general manager in 1931.

He was active in Boy Scout work and had served from 1927 to 1932 as a member of the board of education of the Charles City schools.

He served in World war I, enlisting in the army, Oct. 1, 1918, at Camp Meigs. He was a part commander of the American Legion post here; had served as director of the Chamber of Commerce and as president of the Lions club of which he was a charter member.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. James White, Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Charles Stoecker, Charles City, and a brother, Henry, Seattle, Wash.
