Boys At Charles City Find $676.90

Robert McGeeney, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. McGeeney and Melvin Baldwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Baldwin, 600 Clinton Street, stumbled onto a purse at the curbs on West Clark St in front of the Gilbert hotel Saturday afternoon and opening it saw more money than they had ever seen before.

They took it to the office of the former’s father, City Clerk J.W. McGeeney, who upon examining the contents found $676.00 in currency, a note for $114, a $5 check, besides certificates of deposit issued by the Citizens National Bank of Charles City made out to Percy Holman.

Mr. McGeeney got in touch with the Citizen’s Bank who notified Holman who missed the pocket book but did not know where he could have lost it. He was very glad to get the purse and its contents back intact and rewarded the boys with $10 each. Holman is known in Charles City. He was a former rural mail carrier.
