From these records, it appears that Harry Raney married Ethel Leila Patterson in 1919. By 1925, they had had no children. In 1929, he married Nettie Brooks [maiden name Nettie Allwood, divorced from H. Max Brooks] who had a son, Armin Brooks, Harry's stepson. The 1930 census enumerates Harry, Nettie and Armin.

WEST UNION — Final rites for Harry Raney, 60, who died of a heart attack last Wednesday were conducted at 2 p. m. Friday from Bethel Presbyterian church by Rev. G. W. Ultena. Burial was in West Union cemetery. Military rites were held at the grave. Harry Addison Raney, son of Walter and Cora Fisher Raney, was born May 2, 1891, on a farm near Algona. He moved with his parents to a farm near Anoka, Minn., at the age of 14 and lived there for about four years. He worked around Algona and Irvington until February of 1918, when he enlisted in the army during World War I. He was stationed at Camp Dodge and served as a truck driver until being honorably discharged in April of 1919. In 1919 he purchased a grocery store at St. Benedict, which he operated four years. He came to West Union in 1923 and operated a garage in partnership with Cornel Anfinson. July 11, 1929, he married Mrs. Nettie Brooks at Nashua. He sold his business in 1947 and since had been working as a salesman with Falb and Sons, Elgin, and West Union Motors. He was a member of the American Legion and the Lions club. Surviving besides his wife are a step-son, Armin Brooks, two grandchildren, his aged mother at Algona: three brothers, Hugh and Glen, Algona. and Ralph. Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Mabel Foxwell, Olympia, Wash.; Gertie Moore, Burt, and Harriet Hieter, Algona. His father and a brother, Clayton, preceded him in death.
