Several ideas come to mind. One is that she died and is buried next to a husband, in a family plot or next to a beloved child that died young. The grave may only be marked "mother" so unless you have her spouse or child's name it might be difficult to find. It could be another county. What is the residential and immigration history of this family?

I would also search newspapers not just Fayette co papers but perhaps there is one that served the Norwegian communities of NE Iowa. If you are interested I can dig out some sources for that kind of information.
