Funk/Woodward adoption

Woodward family records show that Georgie Funk was born to Mr and Mrs Funk on March 2, 1872 near Oelwein, Fayette County. He was the youngest of 7 children, his mother dying at his birth. Frederic Elmer Woodward and Nancy (Bagby) Woodward adopted him and changed his name to Oscar George Woodward. I am trying to find information on all of these lines. I have no information on the Funks, and have not been able to gain information from online sources (I am new at this, so am sure I am missing lots). Any help with any of these lines would be appreciated.
