a marraige to unknown wife

My great-great grandfather on my mother's side was named Emmit Taylor born on 11 July 1853 in Volga City, Clayton, Iowa. I and the rest of my family is trying to find out to who, where and when he got married. So far all we have got is a brick wall. Also same situation for his father who was born20 July 1820 in Bush Creek, Fayette, Iowa. Married to Sarah Forbush 1 Jan. 1850. Except we have no data on either of his parents. Could use lots of help.
