CLERMONT LAD MEETS WITH WITH A SORRY ACCIDENT

Leo Griebenow, twelve year old son of H. F. Griebenow, is a very ill lad at the Community hospital in West Union, says the Clermont American. Monday evening Leo went for the cows, accompanied by his dog. While crossing the hog lot some sows with pigs chased the dog. Leo feared the encounter and ran to the barbed wire fence. In his hurry and fright he fell into the wire causing a compound fracture of the bone at one elbow. It is presumed that the weight of the body thrown suddenly on the broken limb caused the wire to sever the flesh of the arm so that only a portion of the skin held the two parts of the injured member together.

It was some time before the lad was discovered and the consequent loss of blood will cause serious delay in the little patient's recovery. Dr. Jerdee was called and every effort if being made to escape amputation of the injured arm. The little lad is in a very serious condition and is having a great struggle to overcome the loss of blood and the painful injury.

I found this article among the obituaries in my mother's obituary collection. She has hand dated it 1928. I assume it is from the Postville Herald newspaper.
