I am at a dead end with Willis Paul who married Emaline Chase Nov 22 1879. I don't find them in the 1880 census but find them in Smithfield Twp. in 1885, 1895. They are my gg grandparents. Willis was born in New York in 1860 but I have no clue as to his Parents. The only Willis or William in NY in 1870 and the right age was still in NY in 1880 with his aunt and uncle. He seems to have appeared in Fayette county at about the same time as several other Paul families from New York who all settled in Smithfield township across the road from the Jamees Chase Farm. Some of the family heads Were Clark Paul, Jesse Paul and J.C. Paul. My Grandfather was Edgar Paul born in 1883. His siblings as of 1895 were Ruben, Harry Jesse and Maryellen. My GGrandfather Edgar moved to Clarion sometime before 1915 where he was a machinist for the Chicago Great Western. I would like to hear from anyone who may be able to help shed som light on the parentage of Willis or any one connected to the Chase Family. I belong to the Iowa Genealogical Society and would be able and willing to help others with some research in the library here.
Thanks, Walt
