In Response To: Boals Cemetery (Don Gardner)

Boals Cemetery and several other old cemeteries have been restored by the Fayette County Pioneer Cemetery Association made up of volunteers with some funding from the county. After each cemetery is restored, the association also maintains it. They have done an absolutely fantastic job!

More information available at the Fayette County Historical Center in West Union.

Unfortunately, not all old (mostly township cemeteries) qualify and most are under the care of the township trustees of whom some are reluctant to do more than just mow the grass. Two that really need TLC are Center Grove, north of Maynard and Otsego, southwest of Oelwein near the county line.

Oakdale Cemetery in Oelwein has been 'adopted' by the Oelwein Area Genealogy Society as a community improvement project. This just recently happened and do not know what their plans include.
