VAN KIRK, HOUGH

The death summons came very suddenly
and unexpectedly to Archie Van Kirk,
who resided on the S. H. Hough
farm, a few miles from the city, Thursday
morning. He arose at an early
hour and after building the fires proceeded
to put on his wraps to go out
and do his chores. In a few moments
all sounds in the kitchen ceased and
his wife supposing he had gone out
doors arose to prepare the morning
meal. On going into the kitchen she
was horrified to find her husband sitting
in a chair apparently dead. He
had an overshoe on and was in the act
of putting on the other one when the
death summons came and his life went
out. Medical aid was at once summoned
but nothing could be done. Deceased
had been in the city Wednesday
with a load of hay and was apparently
in good health. He was about
thirty-five years of age and moved to
this vicinity from Nebraska about
three years ago. He leaves a wife and
three children.

Oelwein Register - 22 Dec 1897
