Fredrick “Fritz” Sutter
Frederick “Fritz” William Sutter, 83, West Union, died Saturday, January 7, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center, West Union, following a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Union with Rev. Michael Molland officiating. Friends may call at the church from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Wednesday. Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery, West Union. Leonard Funeral Home, Elgin, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born October 4, 1922, on a farm in Clayton County, to Daniel and Hulda (Frederick) Sutter. Fritz attended country schools.
February 16, 1945, he was united in marriage to Arlene B. Hilgerson in West Union. Two children were born to this union. He farmed three years and worked for the lumber yard in West Union. He retired from Fayette County Road Maintenance in 1984. At that time, they moved to Lansing where they lived until ill health forced them to move back to West Union.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Arlene Sutter of West Union; his son Wayne (Judy) Sutter of West Union; his daughter Sandy (Mike) Moser of West Union; two grandchildren, Krista (Ron) Dunt of Hampton, and Troy (Brenda) Moser of Cresco; five great-grandchildren, Hailey, Emily, Kortney, Morgan, and Spencer; brothers Leo (Vi) Sutter of Cedar Rapids and Don (Marilana) Sutter of Elgin; and two sisters, Marie Anderson of Elgin and Erna (Kenny) Koupal of Cedar Falls.
Frederick was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Selmer Sutter, in infancy.
Honorary casketbearers are Sam Hofer, William Peters, Paul Woodard, Lowell Weston, and Leo Friederich. Casketbearers are Ron Dunt, Troy Moser, Mike Moser, Melvin Molokken, Ben Cutsforth, and Duane Mork.
