Lila Staff

Funeral services for Lila Staff were held Monday, December 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa. The Reverend Dwight Albers officiated. The organist was Lois Dummermuth and the soloist was Arthur Amundson. The Casket Bearers were: Eric Staff, Matthew Staff, Kory Staff, Michael Staff, Jane Miculinich, Mark Staff, Mike Tessmer, Larry Indahl. Honorary Casket Bearers were: LaVerne Larson, Oliver Larson, Glen Reierson, Clarence Reierson, Donnie Reierson, Robert Reierson. Burial was in God’s Acres Cemetery at Clermont. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Lila Selvina (Larson) Staff was born June 12, 1917, to Lars H. and Sarah (Reierson) Larson, in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, near Clermont, Iowa. She passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2005, in Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 2 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. Lila graduated from the Clermont High School, where she played basketball for the Clermont Commanders women’s team. She played during the time of both three-court and two-court women’s basketball. She also played the coronet in the school band.

Lila was married to Alton James Staff on October 18, 1939, in the Lutheran Parsonage at Clermont, Iowa. To this union two sons were born. In her early married life, they farmed near Clermont. In 1948 they moved to Elgin for several years. Lila was employed by the Mulford Produce and Elgin Canning Factory. They retired and moved to Clermont until 1997 when Lila suffered a stroke. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville.

Lila was an avid Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan and faithfully watched their games. She and Alton also attended many of their grandchildren’s sports events.

She is survived by her two sons, Kenneth and Linda Staff and Curtis and Janet Staff, all of Monona, Iowa, six grandchildren, Eric (Tricia) Staff, Matthew (Angie) Staff, Kory (Lori) Staff, Michael (Jennifer) Staff, Jane (Mike) Miaculinich, Mark Staff; three great grandchildren, Katie Staff, Maggie Staff, and Olivia Staff, and a brother-in-law, Adolph Monson, North Attleboro, MA.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alton, who died December 22, 1990, one brother, Millard Larson, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Howard and Myrtle Olson, Jack and Charlotte Indahl, Francis and Helen Adams, and sister-in-law, Ellie Monson.

Lila was a lifetime member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church.
