George William Meyers

George William Meyers was born in Dubuque
County, Iowa, and died May 8, 1962 at the age
of 88 years, 7 months, and nine days. He was the
son of William H. Meyers and Martha (Hinde) Meyers.

Mr. Meyers received his early education in
schools near Dyersville. He moved to Maynard in
1894 and was engaged in farming. He was married
to Jessie Beckner, Nov. 28, 1897, and to this
union six daughters and two sons were born.

Mr. and Mrs. Meyers farmed in the Maynard
area until they retired to the present home in
Maynard. Mr. Meyers was preceded in death by
his wife and two infant daughters.

Those surviving are: John of Fayette, George
of Waterloo, Grace (Mrs. Andrew Gantenbein) of
Maynard, Helen Butters of Arcadia, Ca. , Ruby
(Mrs. Max Shaffer) of Fayette, and Doris (Mrs.
Wayne Roberts) of Oelwein, 13 grandchildren,
and 23 great grandchildren.

Mr. Meyers was stricken March 5 and was
taken to the home of his son, John, northeast
of Maynard, where he was cared for by his
children until the time of his death.

Funeral services were held at the Emmanuel
Methodist church at Maynard, May 10, 2 pm, with
Rev. Herbert Clyde Shaffer in charge.

Pallbearers were Frank Stiles, Herbert Malvin,
William Arp, Otto Nehlson, Floyd Simpson and
Gene Brownell. Donna and Candice Fortune sang
"In the Garden" with Ann Gilmer at the organ.
