Henry Mittelsted

Henry Fred Mittelsted, son of Fred and Emma Pape Mittelsted, was born October 14, 1901 at Dover Township in Fayette County. He died Wednesday, June 14, 1995 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville of complications from a stroke.

Henry was baptized in 1901 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, Iowa. He was confirmed into the Christian faith at St. Peter in 1916. Henry was educated through grade school in Dover Township and at the St. Peter German School.

On February 5, 1925 he was united in marriage to Hattie Schatz at St. Peter. To this union were born three children, Bonita, Luetta, and Allen.

Henry worked for most of his life on the farm but worked for a short time at Rockwell in Cedar Rapids.

Henry enjoyed reading, working on radios, and writing. His one book is entitled "There was an easier way," which he was interested in updating at the time of his death.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Hannah Meyer.

He is survived by his children: Bonita Berger, Luetta Schroeder, and Allen Mittelsted; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held June 16, 1995 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, Iowa with Pastor Charles M. Smith officiating. The organist was Ramona Meyer. Casket bearers were Doyle Schroeder, Larry BHerger, Mark Mittelsted, Michael Mittelsted, Leo Berger and Ray Paul. Arrangements by Burnam and Wood Funeral Home of West Union, Iowa. Interment was at the St. Peter Cemetery.
