Bernard Thomas, Sr.
Arlington- Funeral services for Bernard E. "Lit" Thomas, Sr. will be at 11a.m., Wednesday, Oct 18, at the Church of Christ, Arlington, with the Rev Scott Hall officiating. Burial will be in Taylorsville Cemetery, Arlington, with military graveside rites by the Arlington American Legion Dean Harkin Post #219.
Friends may call from 2 until 7 p.m., Tuesday, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington, an for on hour prior to services at the church, Wednesday.
Mr. Thomas, 76, died Friday evening, Oct 13, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City, after a short illness.
He was born April 28, 1919, in Randalia, the son of Edwin and Gracia (Vogelsang) Thomas. He graduated from Arlinton High School in 1938, and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He had worked at the John Deere Tractor Works and Chamberlain Manufacturing, both in Waterloo. A longtime Arlington resident, Mr. Thomas was a member of the Arlington Church of Christ; V.F.W. and Arlington American Legion Dean Harkin Post #219; and the Broad Mountain Chapter 159th Combat Engineer Battalion.
Survivors include three sons, Bernard Thomas, Jr. of Oelwein, Larry Thomas of Hazleton, and Dan Thomas of Oxnard, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.
He was proceded in death by his parents; one stepson, Richard; three brothers, Erwin, Frank, and Ethan; and one sister, Esther.
