Charles Lloyd Harkin

Charles Lloyd Harkin was born in Arlington, on April 20, 1921. He was the oldest son of Lloyd and Syulvia Kerres Harkin. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He attended rural schools near Arlington and was graduated in 1938 from Arlington High Schhol.
He was an army vetran of World War II here he received the American, European-African and Eastern Campaign medals and the Bronze star.
In 1959 he was married to Marge Anderson of Oelwein.
He was employed at the Sash and Door company of Rock Island, Il, for 20 years. He also was employed at the Service Rubber company, and the Rock Island Arsenal.
He served as quartermaster for 15 years of the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he was a past commander. He was a member of American Legion post 246, Eagles Lodge 1112, and Friends Circle Club, all of Moline.
He suffered a massive heart attack near his home on Wednesday, March 25, and died at the age of 65 years.
He is survived by one sister, Evelyn (Mrs Orlin) Knickerbocker, and one brother, Howard Harkin, both of Arlington, and six nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dean Harkin.
Military services were held at the Dee Roo Funeral Home at Moline at 1pm., Friday, March 27, with burial in the National Cemetery Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Il. Rev. Tongy Ego of Sacred Heart Catholic church, Moline, officated. Pallbearers and honor guardsmen were VFW members.

Arlington (Special) Charles Harkin, 66, of Moline, Illinois, and a former Arlington resident, died Wednesday in Moline. He was a world war II veteran.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Marcy 27 at the DeeRoo Funeral Home in Moline, Illinois, with burial in Moline. The DeeRoo Funeral Home is in charge of thge arrangements.
Surviving are a brother, Howard Harkin of Arlington; a sister, Mrs Orllin (Evelyn) Knickerbocker of Arlington; nieces and nephews.
