Oelwein--Leola Marguerite Stoddard, 82, died Friday evening, Feb 8, 2002, at the Grandview Health Care Center, Oelwein, after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb 13, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with the Rev. Darwin L. Moore officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She was born April 29, 1919, at Arlington, the daughter of Roy S. and Nina C. (Davis) Bigelow. She graduated from Maynard High School in 1937. Leola married Raymond H Stoddard on Spet 4, 1943, at Decorah. He died Feb 17, 1996. She worked for Ray's Taxi and Trucking co. in Oelwein and also worked at the Coliseum Ballroom for many years. Leola was also secretary for the Moose Lodge in Oelwein for many years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a member of Eastern Star Oelwein Chapter No. 45 and a former member of the Moose Lodge. She was a longtime Oelwein resident and had been a resident at Grandview Healthcare Center since October 1999.
Survivors include one dauthter, Connie R. (Michael) Short of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter, Cindy M (Christopher) Poyer of Cedar Rapids; a great-granddaughter, Sarah M Poyer of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Lela(Burton) Warren of Hudson and Beverly (Warren) Soules of Lamont; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; two sisters, Charmion Bigelow and Marjorie Bigelow and one brother, Clair Bigelow.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Ray Stoddard Memorial Scholarship Fund for Law Enforcement.
