Funeral services for Gene Alan Knox were held Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa. The Reverend Dwight Albers officiated. Sarah Strong was the organist and Kathy Havenstrite was the Soloist.
The Casket Bearers were: Michael Tessmer, Audie Caldwell, Rick Garcia, and Roger Havenstrite. Military Honors were performed outside the church following the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in God’s Acres Cemetery, Clermont. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.
Gene Alan "Doc" Knox was born December 30, 1952, in Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union, Iowa, to Gene Dwaine Knox and Ruth Irene (Pleggenkuhle) Knox. He died Wednesday, June 1, 2005 at his home in Hawkeye, Iowa. He was 52 years old.
Al was baptized at the Hawkeye Methodist Church in April of 1953. He graduated from Valley High School at Elgin, Iowa in 1971 and continued his education at the Community College at Calmar in the field of carpentry.
He entered the United States Army in 1971, where he was a member of Company B, First Battalion, Second Brigade at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was a tank specialist stationed in Germany for two tours, after which he served his country in the United States.
Al loved to ride his Harley and being outdoors, which including hunting and horseback riding. He had an avid interest in music, DJ’ing, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father, Gene, who died in 1994, an uncle, Carl Pleggenkuhle, and two nephews, Adam Massman and Michael Kleppe.
Surviving are his two children, Valerie (Robert) Odegard, Masonville, IA, and James Knox, Cedar Rapids, IA, three grandchildren, Rebecca, Alex, and John Odegard, his mother, Ruth Knox, Clermont, IA, one brother, Keith (Carol) Knox, Hawkeye, IA, three sisters, Heidi (Donald) Butikofer, Alpha, IA, Jan (Joseph) Massman, Taylor, WI, and Jill (Dave) Christianson, Elgin, IA, Danny (Mary) Schott, Elgin, IA, other relatives and many friends.
